STATEMENT FROM NY RENEWS AND NEW YORKERS FOR CLEAN AIR

July 3, 2025

July 3, 2025 — Today, New Yorkers for Clean Air and NY Renews released the following joint statement following the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s public comment period on the draft greenhouse gas reporting rule. Together, the coalitions submitted nearly 2,700 comments calling for a strong cap-and-invest program that will lower electric bills, hold polluters accountable, and deliver clean air to all New Yorkers. The coalitions also ran several press conferences before the in-person hearings in Syracuse, Albany, and New York City to call for a powerful cap-and-invest program.

“New Yorkers have made it clear that they want a cleaner, healthier future. This rule is a first step toward identifying polluters spewing greenhouse gases and toxic pollution into our air. Next, we need to hold those polluters accountable for reducing their pollution. Washington is weakening pollution protections and rolling back essential reporting programs, and it’s more critical than ever that states lead the way on policies that will clean our air and make our communities healthier. There’s critical work ahead, and we are calling on Governor Hochul to deliver on the Clean Air Initiative by advancing the full cap-and-invest regulations and implementing a clean air program that delivers meaningful, cost-effective benefits for all New Yorkers.”
