STATEMENT IN RESPONSE TO FY 2026 FINAL BUDGET

May 9, 2025 - The New Yorkers for Clean Air coalition today issued the following statement in response to the passage of the FY2026 Final Budget:

“As the federal government continues to reverse decades of environmental progress, we are grateful to Governor Hochul, Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins, and Speaker Heastie for investing in climate action in this budget, including $1 billion for the Sustainable Future Fund. This new funding will reduce harmful pollution from the buildings and transportation sectors, transform communities through innovation, create union jobs, prioritize investments in disadvantaged communities, and deliver cleaner air for New Yorkers.

To significantly bolster and sustain this investment, and to protect New Yorkers' health and wallets, it is essential that Governor Hochul urgently advance a cap and invest program that will hold polluters accountable for their damage to our shared home and invest in climate solutions.”
